EDID is a VESA standard data format that includes details such as the display's manufacturer, screen size, native resolution, color properties, frequency range restrictions, and more. After receiving this data, the source may create the appropriate video characteristics to fit the display's requirements. When a computer graphics card is employed as the source device, EDID is frequently used. EDID may also be read by HDTV receivers, DVD and Blu-ray players, LCDs, and digital TVs, which then output the needed visual format. On the other hand, VESA has established DDC (Display Data Channel) as a standard. While DDC is only a description of the interface, EDID refers to the actual data that is transferred between the graphic adapter card and the monitor. The purpose of this data exchange is to identify the associated displays and read their video specs. This protocol includes optimal and maximum resolutions, as well as Gamma values. If a display is linked directly to a graphics adapter card, the only thing to consider is whether or not the connection cable enables DDC transmission.
